CrossFit Preferred COVID-19 Updates

August 21st, 2020 – Gym Closure Update

Hey CFP Fam! We wanted to give you an update on the status of the gym being able to officially reopen inside our building. Governor Ducey has set Benchmarks for Maricopa County that must be met before we are allowed to reopen. The first benchmark is less than 10-100 covid cases per 100,000 people. When we hit that benchmark we are allowed to reopen at 25% capacity. We had the fire Marshall come out and give us a max capacity number for our facility. GOOD NEWS is that our 25% capacity is 17 people. So when we are able to reopen we will be able to have class sizes of 15 with the coach and front desk staff taking up 2 of the 17 spaces.

The governor has also provided an attestation form for gyms to fill out to petition on their behalf to be allowed to reopen before the benchmarks are met. This is something we were hesitant to do because of some underlining rules they have attached with signing this document. But we decided it was worth it if it allowed us to reopen our doors. So as of yesterday the form has been submitted. They now have 10 days to either deny or grant us the ability to reopen.

We will keep you all informed if/when we are able to fully reopen. But until then we are still offering outdoor classes at 5am, 6am, 7am, 4:30pm and 5:30pm M-F with Spartan being held M,W,TH at 7pm. Our Saturday schedule is 6am Spartan, 7am CrossFit.

July 26th, 2020 – Updates and Back Alley CrossFit

Many of you have heard that Governor Ducey has extended our closure order for at least another two weeks from July 27th. The new Executive Order states that they will review for repeal or revision every two weeks. As much as we wish we could open and know that other gyms are choosing to ignore the Order we will choose to continue to hold workouts outside and provide as much as we can for you until we are allowed back indoors. We will keep a watchful eye on this situation and keep everyone informed on details of when we can reopen as soon as we get them.

We want to give a HUGE thank you to all of you for the support you have shown us during this time. Out of the last 4 months we have been forced to close our doors  for 3 of those months. We have seen many local gyms forced to close their doors for good because of how the executive order has affected their business. We know we would not still be in this fight without your support and we want more than anything to be here to support you when we are allowed to reopen. The continued financial support has helped out the gym tremendously as well as allowed us to continue to pay our coaches and our employees. As grateful as we are we understand these are difficult times for everyone. If you need to pause your membership during this time because of financial reasons or any other reason please let us know. 

Now for something POSITIVE!!

We have been holding park WODS and track workouts which have had great attendance. But we know most of you are really missing lifting a heavy barbell. We have decided to change our PARK WODS to be BACK ALLEY WODS. We will no longer be meeting in the park (YES!! No more mosquitos) but will instead meet behind the gym. Our class times will remain the same. 5am, 6am, 5:30pm, and 7pm (spartan). This class will be a mixture of At Home workouts and regular CrossFit programming depending on space and equipment available, But our goal is to allow you time for strength work during each class. We will be moving our two floating rigs outside to get in some squats. We know this isn’t ideal circumstances but it will at least give you all a chance to get in some strength work a couple times a week.

We ask that if you have borrowed plates, barbells or other equipment that we would use during a CrossFit class and you plan on attending our classes to PLEASE return the equipment that you have borrowed so we have enough for classes. If you are NOT comfortable attending in person classes and are planning on doing the At Home workouts on your own please reach out to me to make arrangements.

I don’t have to tell you that it is HOT outside so please come prepared. Bring plenty of water and possibly electrolytes for recovery. If you come in the evening make sure you are hydrating all day long.

Please park in the back of the gym as the front doors will be locked. 

We ask that you continue to use WODIFY to reserve a space in class so the coach can plan accordingly. We will still be encouraging social distancing and wiping down equipment before and after use.

July 5th, 2020 – Updates & Equipment Rental

Well here we go again with round two of our closure from COVID. We might be closed but that doesn’t mean your fitness has to stop. Now is probably the most important time to remain focused on your health, and to keep your mind and body as strong as possible. We are as dedicated as ever to provide you with workouts, nutrition support, coaching, and probably most importantly community.

Our CrossFit Preferred Team will be working OVERTIME to provide as much as we can during this time. All active members will have access to our At Home workouts via WODIFY. All At Home workouts will have a full class video provided by NCFIT (we recently partnered with them) to follow along withIn the Wodify App just switch the program from CrossFit to At Home and you can see the link for the full workout video. Please take photos or videos of you working out at home with the hashtag #cfpathome and tag us on social media so we can all cheer each other on.

We want to make sure you have what you need to do the At Home workouts so we will be loaning out equipment starting TOMORROW Monday July 6th from 5:00am to 8:00am, and 4:00pm-6:00pm. We don’t have enough equipment to give each member a full set up but we will make sure you have at least one heavy object to be able to get your workout in. We also know that the community is a HUGE part of CrossFit. So we will be holding park workouts every morning at 5:00am and 6:00am as well as every evening at 5:30pm. These workouts will be at the park behind Walgreens on the southwest corner of Higley and Guadalupe. We will be doing the At Home workouts together so bring your heavy object. We will also be holding Spartan Classes on Monday, Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm, and Saturday morning at 6:45am. Our endurance classes will be Thursday night at 7:00pm and Thursday morning at 5:30am. PLEASE make sure you are PRE-REGISTERING for classes still so the coach can plan accordingly.

Remember to continue to login to Wodify for Committed Club attendance as well as track your WOD and view the leaderboard. We will also be putting you all into accountability groups based off what class time you attend. These groups will be lead by a coach and there will be daily and weekly challenges to earn entries into a weekly product giveaway we will be doing every Friday. We have some FUN things in store!!

June 28th, 2020 – COVID-19 Update

Over the past 6 weeks since we have reopened our doors we have taken extra measures to clean and sanitize between classes. When possible we are keeping each of you spaced out in you own square and making sure you have the equipment you need for the workouts without sharing if that’s what you desire. We have added extra measures such as spacing classes out, having Meghan and coaches wipe down commonly touched surfaces, adding touch less features in the bathroom and providing sanitizing spray for you to clean your equipment after use. Our floors get cleaned every afternoon as well to keep things sanitized.

Yesterday we had one of our members inform us that they tested positive for COVID-19. This person normally attends the morning class and the last class that was attended was on Tuesday June 23rd. The symptoms experienced are very mild and there has been no fever present since last Thursday. They will continue to quarantine for the next two weeks.

Many of you are starting to come in contact or know others that have or have had COVID-19. It is almost inevitable at this point. We want to use this experience as a time for us to really reinforce or sanitizing and cleaning measures at the gym.

  • Please make sure that you are preregistering for classes so that we can keep the class sizes to 15 of less.
  • If you prefer to have your own space while at the gym please let Meghan or the coach know and we will make sure you have a square to yourself.
  • Make sure you wipe down EVERYTHING you touch! This includes the pull-up bar, floor, white board and markers if used, and any other piece of equipment you use for the workout.

We will do everything in our power to keep you all safe and healthy. But it is important that we don’t live in fear and that we do our best to be prepared and use proper precautions.

We will still have classes as normal requiring all members to reserve a space in advance. However we are still offering AT HOME workouts for those that prefer to follow those, If you need to borrow a dumbbell please contact Tiersa and we will make sure you have what you need for the at home workouts. June 19th, 2020 – Latest COVID19 Update – Face Coverings

Effective immediately….help us slow the spread. 

The health and safety of our entire community is our number one priority. We ask that when you are hanging out in the common areas at the front door and at our front desk that you please wear a mask.

Once you are in your workout area and safely distanced you may remove your mask. We have brought back the taped workout areas and will do our best to keep everyone socially distanced.

We know there are definitely strong opinions about masks. Please know that the Gilbert Town Council and Maricopa County has adopted an emergency order requiring the wearing of face coverings in public effective today, June 19th, 2020 at 5:00pm.

Under the emergency order, people are required to wear a face covering in the following circumstances: 

  • When entering and while inside town-owned buildings and facilities
  • In such indoor or outdoor places where persons are unable to maintain safe physical distancing (six or more feet separation) from others not of their own household.

The following exceptions are in place:

  • In settings where it is not practical or feasible to wear a face covering
  • Those who cannot wear a face covering due to a medical or behavioral condition

The emergency order will remain in effect for 30 days or until modified or rescinded by the Town of Gilbert.

We know that it is not possible to wear a mask while working out so lets do our best to keep socially distanced, keep everyone healthy and stay in compliance with Gilbert .

May 30th, 2020 – New Afternoon Hours and Class Sizes

Happy Saturday CFP Family! I wanted to make you aware of a few changes being rolled out next week.

First of all thank you to everyone who has been so patient with our new schedule and registering for classes. Our goal is to slowly get back to our normal hours and class sizes all while continuing to keep people feeling safe and having time to sanitize equipment between classes.

Starting Next week on Monday June 1st we will be switching our evening classes to start on the hour. We will no longer have a 15 minute gap between classes. The new schedule will be as follows….

Monday-Friday 

3:00pm – CrossFit Class

4:00pm – CrossFit Class

5:00pm – CrossFit Class

6:00pm – CrossFit Class

7:00pm – Spartan SGX/Endurance (M,W,TH ONLY)

Morning schedule will not change and will continue to be every hour and 15 minutes starting at 5:00am. All class sizes throughout the day will also be increasing to 15 people per class. We still ask that you reserve a spot in class before coming and be sure to cancel your reservation at least 1 hour before the start of class if you are unable to make it. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing a station with someone PLEASE notify the front desk staff as you enter the gym. They will make sure you have your own station.

May 13th, 2020

We are EXTREMELY EXCITED to get you all back in the gym! We have definitely missed seeing all of you and attacking WOD’s together. We know this time has been challenging for many of you. We want to first take the time to say THANK YOU to each of you for your support over the last several weeks. We have never felt so much love and encouragement and we hope you all know how much we appreciate it. With your support not only are we able to reopen our doors, but we have been able to continue to pay your coaches. So thank you! 

We are so excited to announce that we will be REOPENING our doors!! Monday May 18th will be our first full day of classes. We can’t wait to see all your faces! To make sure things run smoothly we have put some guidelines in place. Here is a list of things you can expect at CrossFit Preferred. 

    • Deep Cleaning – During our closure we have spent extra time on the gym to ensure it is in tip top shape. The whole gym has been deep cleaned, walls have been painted, and mats pulled up and cleaned. We will be doing another deep cleaning this weekend before our doors reopen.

 

  • Social Distancing Stations – We will be setting up 9 Workout Stations in the gym
  • Station will be an 8×15 ft spot with access to the rig and pull up bar.
  • Stations will be set up with all the equipment you will need for the daily workout to ensure proper distancing and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Stations will also be stocked with personal sanitizing spray and cloth.

 

      • It will be the athletes responsibility to clean and disinfect all the equipment in their station at the end of their training session.
      • Coaches will spot mop the floor as they see the need in between classes
    • Pre Register for class – class size will be limited to 9 athletes to ensure proper distancing. Pre Registration for class is REQUIRED to attend. Each class will have a waitlist as well. All athletes that are registered for a class MUST attend that class or remove their name from the registration within one hour of class start time to allow the next person on the waitlist to attend.
      • Reserve a spot in your preferred class time through the Wodify app up to 48 hours before class.
      • If your schedule is flexible please consider scheduling a less popular class time to allow those who may have a tighter schedule to get their workouts in.

 

  • Class Time and Schedules – To enforce social distancing we have limited class sizes to 9 people but may be subject to change as the weeks go on. This first week will be a trial period as we navigate this new way of class sizes. We have added a few extra classes each day to allow for more attendance. We will also be tracking busier class times, and attendance to schedule more or less classes at certain times of the day as weeks go on. Class times are as follows.

Monday –  Friday Morning

  • 5:00am-6:00am (CrossFit)
  • 6:15am-7:15am (CrossFit)
  • 7:30am-8:30am (CrossFit)
  • 8:45am-9:45am (CrossFit)
  • 10:00am-11:00am (CrossFit)
  • 11:15am-1:15am (Open Gym)


    Monday – Friday Evening

    • 3:00pm-4:00pm (CrossFit)
    • 4:15pm-5:15pm (CrossFit)
    • 5:30pm-6:30pm (CrossFit)
    • 6:45pm-7:45pm (CrossFit – Tuesday, Thursday,  Friday) (Spartan – Monday, Wednesday)

      Saturday Morning

      • 6:30am-7:30am (Spartan)
      • 7:45am-8:45am (CrossFit)
      • 9:00am-10:00am (CrossFit)
    • Minimal Touch Check in and scoring – We will no longer have members login to class using the main computer at the gym.
      •  All athletes will use the WODIFY app to log into class and score their workout.
      • Meghan or the front desk staff can log you in and record your workout of the day into Wodify.

 

  • No Child Care – Unfortunately there can not be childcare during this time. We apologize and as things settle we will absolutely revisit this. For those unable to come in due to needing childcare please contact Tiersa to discuss options.

 

    • Minimal Touch Bathroom – We have switched out our faucet and soap dispenser to sensored units to minimize surface contact with potential germ filled areas.
      • Bathrooms will be sanitized between each class to insure cleanliness

 

  • Gym Sanitation
      • All gym surfaces will be sanitized daily
      • Gym floor will continue to be cleaned daily as well as spot mopped in between classes
      • Classes will be 15 minutes apart to allow for proper cleaning of surfaces
      • Coaches will clean the bathroom, spot mop and wipe commonly touched surfaces between each class.
  • Enter and Exit plan – Athletes will enter through the front desk door and exit using the double doors in the back of the room. A separate stretching and sitting area will be set up outside the double doors for athletes to use before and after class.
      • Athletes will be provided with hand sanitizer to use as they enter the gym.
  • Programming – We realize many of you haven’t touched a barbell or a heavy weight in almost two months. We know you’re all dying to come in and crush the weights, however it’s important that we take a slow approach to this. Our number one priority is to help you ease back into fitness in a safe way to keep you all injury free. And we have a plan to help you do this.
    • Encourage you all to come more frequently than normal and keep intensity moderate.
    • Lower RX weights to adjust accordingly for the first few weeks
    • High focus on stimulus of the workout over RX’ing a workout.
      • Remember it’s more about reconnecting with each other and making progress with your fitness.
    • Virtual Class –  We will still be offering At Home programming and ONE ZOOM class a day through the month of May for those that are unable or uncomfortable coming into the gym.
      • Zoom class will be moved to 11:00am to accommodate the increase in morning CrossFit Classes.

We support you in your personal choice during this difficult time if you choose to continue the stay at home protocol. We plan to continue all online platform training as well as equipment loan outs for those in this situation. Please contact Tiersa for more information.

To allow for classes to resume we require all equipment to be returned. We understand that with the tight class cap and schedules some people will still choose or need to workout from home. In order to see what equipment we have to loan out we need to get 100% of our equipment back to CFP by Saturday. Drop off times will be as follows:

  • Wednesday 3:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Thursday 6:30am – 12pm, 5:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Friday 6:30am – 11:00am
  • Saturday 8:00am-9:30 am

As you drop off your equipment you will be asked to find your name on the equipment rental form and mark your equipment returned. All items that are not marked off on the sheet will be charged for.

Thank you for being patient as we navigate these changes together. We will be learning and changing things as the weeks go by to better accommodate each of you. We are doing everything in our power to ensure you stay healthy and active during this time while keeping you all in the gym. Can’t wait to see you all next week!!
