Nutrition Talk With Tiersa & Meghan

This month’s topic, Rethink your Drink🍸🧋🤔.
We’ll go over really how much sugar is in your soda’s, coffees, and juices. We’ll also give some great alternative ideas so you can still have that coffee or soda drink that you love to have. And don’t forget those alcoholic drinks. We will teach you how to lower those calories and still enjoy your drink.😀👍🏻

Jared Christensen

Jared joined us last year during the first gym shutdown and quickly fell in love with CrossFit! He has excelled during his time at CrossFit Preferred and has now lost over 7% body fat working with Tiersa in our CFP nutrition program and feels like he is in the best shape of his life in years! 

At age 42 his fitness and health are continuing to improve and CrossFit is helping him to be his best he can be in and out of the gym and for his wife and kids! 

If you have not met Jared you are truly missing out! He brings a ton of energy to the gym and is a blast to workout with! Jared thanks for being a huge part of CrossFit Preferred!

Congratulations to Kris, Ryan, Andrew, Shayne and Andrea for hiking the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim, that’s 47 miles! It was a day full of challenges and so rewarding! They did it in 21 hours!
Congratulations to Tyrel for competing in his first 2 CrossFit comps! He got 19th place at DC Slam on May 1st, and got 1st place at Desert Warrior comp on May 15th!
Congratulations to Seth for getting his Doctorate!

Monday May 31st, 2021 – Memorial Day “Murph” Workout! 

Join us to remember Michael Murphy and  those that gave all they had for our freedom! We do this annually at CrossFit Preferred and it is a great time for each of us to dig deep and to encourage each other for this great CrossFit Hero workout!


For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it “Body Armor”. From here on it will be referred to as “Murph” in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you’ve got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.

One of our biggest goals at CrossFit Preferred is to help our members kick butt in life into their 90’s in all areas of their lives.

I recently listened to a video on the CrossFit main site called Exercise: The Key to “Superaging”. In this video Lisa Feldman Barrett a distinguished professor of psychology at Northeastern University and author of “How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain” was interviewed.

A SuperAger is someone older than 60 who “has a memory that functions indistinguishably from (that of) a 25 year old.”

The main focus was that the parts of the brain that regulate memories also contribute to emotional and physical health.

She taught that the best thing to do to improve your emotional health is to improve your physical health: get enough sleep, exercise vigorously and eat well.

She also taught that humans are social creatures, so working out in a group setting can also encourage healthy behavior. We help regulate each other’s nervous systems, Barrett explains, so exercising together can motivate people to make better choices. Each of the things she taught in this video are what we do in CrossFit.

The Top 5 ways to Become a SuperAger are:

– Get enough sleep

– Exercise vigorously – if it causes a little stresss and is tough for you that is best.

– Focus on good clean eating and nutrition – Have a strong community

– Always keep learning – read or listen to books, podcasts and write down what you are learning.

I loved learning this and learning that what we are doing will also improve our memory is great! Remember that what you are doing now will effect you the rest of your life! It is so important that we do not wait on becoming better and to focus on it now! Keep up the great work CrossFit Preferred athletes! See you soon!
